During the last 48 hours, CNN, CBS & MSNBC were called out for airing fake news about WikiLeaks and Donald Trump Jr.
As you may already know, they have reported that an email was sent to Donald Trump Jr, claiming to contain a link to files from WikiLeaks that was sent on September 4, 2016.
It then transpired that the email was actually sent on September 14, 2016 and so CNN and others posted corrections.
What most people don't know is that there are more fundamental flaws with the story most of the mainstream press have run with. While I'll explain these in more detail in their own sections further into this article, the flaws were:
The image below comes from a statement sent out by Brian Stelter and team, I've highlighted all the problems. As you can see, only the word "before" (italics being their emphasis) is highlighted as a problem by them.
As not to single out CNN, it should be noted than MSNBC and CBS (as well as others in the mainstream press) have been (and continue to be) just as bad. MSNBC did it's usual thing in trying to manufacture outrage with the story and CBS, hilariously, tweeted that what CNN reported had been confirmed. (ABC and others also contributed their own confirmation and assurance too.)
NOTE: CBS, in fairness and much to their credit, did actually point out the flaw with the date when their source forwarded the email to them.
So, what else did they get wrong?
One is easy to figure out. The other is obscure due to 'straw-man' style attacks that were used by RussiaGate conspiracy theorists against research showing Guccifer 2.0's files showed no signs of coming from a hack and even finding several indicators contradicting the premise.
The first issue here is that what was claimed in the email wasn't true.
The 678mb archive was only ever tweeted about by WikiLeaks, it was NOT released by them.

The person who released the archive was Guccifer 2.0, he did this through a speech he had written that was read out on his behalf at an information security conference in London (with the details for the archive given out in slides that accompanied the speech).
Some have tried to claim WikiLeaks was the first to report it (so "it proves a connection"), however, such claims are also false, as the following demonstrates:

Ultimately, the files were not from WikiLeaks, neither was WikiLeaks the first to tweet about them.
I did ask them (back in June of this year) why they tweeted about it, their response:
In fairness, WikiLeaks often tweets about leaks, leakers, intelligence, politics, etc and they have stated numerous times that them tweeting about things doesn't imply any endorsement.
WikiLeaks tweeting details of what many believed to be leaks from a genuine hacker would not be out of character for the WikiLeaks twitter account to do.
The files in that 678Mb archive were analyzed in considerable detail earlier this year and initially reported on by Disobedient Media, with further coverage from some mainstream sources coming after members of VIPS (Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity) became interested in the research.
Several interesting discoveries were made about the contents of the archive, however, none of these supported the premise of the files coming from a hack, in fact, some contradicted it.
Most interesting of all was the fact that, despite looking for any types of indicators through a thorough analysis of the archives and filesystem meta data, there was nothing to suggest the files came from a hacker, nothing to suggest the files were gathered by someone accessing them remotely, nothing to suggest the files were archived or transferred in timezones away from where the DNC resides.
There was nothing to suggest a hack was involved.
This isn't the first time that CNN, CBS and MSNBC have been champions of synchronized bullshit.
It's not the first time they've used shady anonymous sources pushing out claims that are not backed by evidence.
In fact, what they did last time served to manufacture consent for war with Russia (at the least) and may have even been an example of the MSM being used for an attempted coup by certain figures in the intelligence community to manipulate the electoral college vote.
We'll cover that disgrace on it's anniversary.. only 5 days to go...
